Removal of pre-2017 official cmake.git repository

The official CMake Git repository was moved in 2017 from https://cmake.org/cmake.git to https://gitlab.kitware.com/cmake/cmake.git as part of the transition to development on GitLab. The old repository was left as a mirror to keep existing scripts in the wild working. We now plan to turn off Git clone/fetch access to the old repository.

Any scripts or checkouts using URLs like

  • git://cmake.org/cmake.git
  • http://cmake.org/cmake.git
  • https://cmake.org/cmake.git

or

  • git://public.kitware.com/cmake.git
  • http://public.kitware.com/cmake.git
  • https://public.kitware.com/cmake.git

should be updated to use the current official repository URL:

  • https://gitlab.kitware.com/cmake/cmake.git

The old URLs will stop working for git clone, git fetch, and git pull in April 2020.

The gitweb viewer will remain available for a while longer to keep existing links to old commits working, though no new commits will be added.

Support for the old URLs has now been disabled.
