# Technical name for CXX, Fortran

The language identifiers `CXX, Fortran, CUDA, ...` that for instance are passed to the CMake built-in command `project` are not keywords but …? Are they called identifiers?

They are language names. The [full signature](https://cmake.org/cmake/help/latest/command/project.html) puts them under the `LANGUAGES` keyword.
