Recently a terminal escape sequence protocol [OSC 7501](https://mitchellh.com/writing/program-status-osc7501) was developed to allow programs to communicate status in a defined way to other programs via the terminal. One use of this is for AI agents running programs like CMake and being able to get their current status. Another could be CI runners and build bots knowing if a CMake build is hung up rather than waiting for a long timeout. Just food for thought as CMake is such a widely used program that seems potentially a good fit for this protocol.
